Sri Varalakshmi Vrata Puja and Shravan Upakarma Ceremony
|
Dear Devotees,
Shravan Purnima , also known as Rakhi Purnima, falls on Thursday, August 27 this year. It is a very holy
day as several auspicious events are celebrated on this day. Among them, the most important and
popular traditions are Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi) and Rik / Yajur Upakarma, changing of Holy Thread-
(Avani Avittam / Jandhyala Purnima). On the Friday preceding the Shravan Purnima day, Sri Varalakshmi Vrata puja will be celebrated.
Please come and join the auspicious celebrations of these two events and seek divine blessings, details below.
Sri Varalakshmi Vrata Puja - Friday, August 21
Varalakshmi Puja will be conducted in the Gita Bhavan at the Temple on Friday, August 21 from 5:30
pm to 7:30 pm. Please be at the Temple by 5:30 pm. The Puja will start at 5:45 pm followed by recitation
of Vrata story and Aarti at 7:30 pm.
All participants please:
- Register at PUJA REGISTRATION link
- Bring your puja plate, Deepam (Diya) and Two Thorams ;
- You may bring small quantities of flowers and fruits.
We need volunteers to set-up and help in other arrangements. If you wish to volunteer, please register at VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION link. Volunteers are requested to be at the Temple by 5:30 pm.
Shravana Upakarma Ceremony - Thursday, August 27
On Shravan Purnima day (Thursday , August 27) starting at 7:00 am, temple will be conducting Upakarma (changing of the Holy Thread) ceremony in the Gita Bhavan. The ritual will include Nutana Yagnopaveetha dharanam, Gayatri Japam, Tarpanam to Rishis, Devas and Pithrus.
This auspicious ceremony will be conducted both in person and Broadcast Live.
Please bring puja items (Temple will not provide any). A suggested list is given below:
(i) Black sesame seeds 50 g (ii) Rice - 50 g (iii) Vibhooti (Bhasma) (iv) Chandan
(v) Kusha pavitra (Darbha) (vi) Yagnopaveetam (vii) Fruits (viii) Achaman patra's-(panchapatra-udharani)
Please arrive before 7:00 am as the ceremony will start on time. The Temple doors will be open from 6:45 am to 7:00 am only. The doors will be closed at 7:05 am.
