    Dear Devotees,

    The auspicious Durga Navaratri Festival starts on Monday, September 22 and ends with Dussehra on Thursday, October 2. During this ten-day celebration, the following events will take place at the Temple.

    Sri Durga SaptaShati (Devi Mahatmyam) Parayan and Sri Navachandi Yaag

    Devi Mahatmyam/Durga Saptashati will be recited from Wednesday, September 24 to Friday, September 26 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Please join in chanting Durga Saptashati with the priests in the Temple. Navachandi Yaag will be conducted on Saturday, September27, starting at 9:00 am.

    Akhand Ramayan Paath (from 8:00 am Saturday, September  27  to 8:00 am Sunday, September 28)

    This auspicious event will be conducted virtually as well as in the Temple as per the following schedule.

               8:00 am to 8:30 pm:             In the Temple and Online

               8:30 pm to 7:00 am:             Online Only

               7:00 am to 8:00 am:             In the Temple and Online (Priest will open the Door)

    For those participating virtually, a link will be sent to you on receipt of your confirmation. Please download the Webex app in preparation. If you can read a few dohas and chaupais, please let us know the time that is convenient to you by sending an email to  hindutempleottawa@gmail.com. Let us enjoy the recitation of the melodious Ram Naam during Navaratri. !!

    Please Note: In case Akhand Ramayan Paath does not conclude on time, there may not be Bhajans or Scripture Reading on Sunday, September 28.

    Global Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Parayanam   (Starts at 9:30 am Ottawa time; Saturday, September27)

    Hindu Temple will be participating in the 18th Akhanda Vishnu Sahasra Nama Parayana (Global AVSN), on Saturday, September 27 starting at 9:20 am. This event is conducted in the Lecture Hall downstairs. The Program includes Samkalpam at 9:20 am, followed by VSN chanting beginning precisely at 9:30 am to coincide with the Global Chanting times in different countries.  The VSN Stotram will be chanted five times followed by recitation of selected Suktams (Purusha Suktam, Sri Suktam, Durga Suktam (Vishnu Suktam if time permits) and Sri Lakshmi Astotharashatnamavali. The event will conclude with Archana, puja and Aarti by 12:30 pm. You can bring small quantities of flowers, fruits and prasadam. Please register by sending an email to temple below.

    Every evening during this week, Devi Stuti, Puja and Aarti will be conducted. These auspicious ceremonies are performed to seek Durga Mata’s blessings for good health, prosperity and happiness for the family and for World Peace.

    The following three programs will be conducted during the Temple’s Anniversary on Dussehra on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October. Please come and join in these auspicious celebrations by participating in sanctification and placement of Kalasha in the shrines, chanting and reading the scriptures and seek divine blessings

    Brahmavidya Day will be celebrated on Sunday, October 5, starting at 9 :00 am. We read Shrimad Bhagvadgeeta and the 6 Upanishads that are part of our scripture program (Isavasya, Kena, Katha, Taitteriya, Mundaka and Kaiivalya). If you wish to participate in this auspicious event by reading a chapter or part of a chapter of Shrimad Bhagvadgeeta or Upanishads, please send an email to hindutempleottawa@gmail.com indicating your preference by Sunday September 21, 6 pm. 

     

    Since several chapters have already been assigned it is imperative that you respond early as we will assign on a "first come first serve” basis. 


    Since we have been running this program virtually for the past few years, we have had several participants from India. As such, we will run the program in the Temple as well as online. Please download Webex app https://www.webex.com/downloads.html  on your device in readiness for the event. Those reading at the Temple will also connect with the Temple computer using that link. Devotees who only wish to listen or read on their own can use the Temple's GoTo Meeting link.
